부정어 도치란?

영어에서 부정 의미의 부사(Never, Rarely, Seldom, Hardly 등)가 문장 맨 앞에 오면, 뒤의 주어와 조동사(또는 be동사)의 순서가 뒤바뀝니다. 이것을 부정어 도치(negative inversion)라고 합니다. 일반: I have never seen such beauty. 도치: Never have I seen such beauty. 일반: She rarely goes out. 도치: Rarely does she go out. 💡 도치는 강조와 격식을 더합니다. 문어체, 연설, 문학에서 자주 사용됩니다. 일상 회화에서는 드물지만, 독해와 작문에서는 꼭 알아야 합니다.

도치를 일으키는 부정 부사

도치 구조 만드는 법

도치 구문 만드는 3단계: 1️⃣ 부정 부사를 문두로 2️⃣ 조동사/be동사를 주어 앞으로 3️⃣ 조동사가 없으면 do/does/did 삽입 예시: 일반: She has never traveled abroad. 1) Never → 문두 2) has → 주어(she) 앞으로 결과: Never has she traveled abroad. 일반: He rarely eats breakfast. 1) Rarely → 문두 2) 조동사 없음 → does 삽입 결과: Rarely does he eat breakfast. 💡 do/does/did를 삽입할 때 원래 동사는 원형으로 돌아갑니다: eats → does eat

Hardly/No sooner 시간 도치

시간 순서를 강조하는 특별한 도치 구문: • Hardly had + S + p.p. when + 과거 Hardly had I sat down when the phone rang. (앉자마자 전화가 울렸다) • No sooner had + S + p.p. than + 과거 No sooner had she arrived than it started to rain. (도착하자마자 비가 오기 시작했다) • Scarcely had + S + p.p. when/before + 과거 Scarcely had he finished when the bell rang. 💡 짝을 외우세요: Hardly ~ when No sooner ~ than Scarcely ~ when/before 모두 '~하자마자'의 의미입니다.
