Only 도치의 원리

Only가 부사(구)와 함께 문장 앞에 올 때 도치가 발생합니다. 이는 '오직 ~할 때만'이라는 제한적 의미를 강조하기 위한 것입니다. 일반: You can understand this only after you experience it. 도치: Only after you experience it can you understand this. 일반: I realized the truth only then. 도치: Only then did I realize the truth. 💡 Only 도치는 부정어 도치와 같은 원리입니다. '오직 ~만'이라는 제한은 사실상 '그 외에는 아니다'라는 부정적 의미를 내포합니다.

Only가 다양한 부사(구)와 결합하는 패턴: • Only then: Only then did I understand. (그때서야) • Only later: Only later did she find out. (나중에야) • Only after: Only after the exam did he relax.
